Our Beliefs

WHAT WE BELIEVE

ONE GOD

We believe in a personal God who has revealed Himself as One. God exists in three persons–Father, Son and Holy Spirit–each distinct, yet all of One essence. He is eternal, loving, just, merciful, holy, and unchanging (Deut. 6:4; 1 Cor. 8:6)

JESUS CHRIST

We believe Jesus Christ to be the virgin-born Son of God, part of the Trinity, who lived in flesh, died for the sins of the world, was buried, rose again in bodily form, and ascended to the Father according to the Scriptures. (Matt. 1:23; John 3:16; Luke 24:1-7; Acts 1:9-11)

HOLY SPIRIT

We believe that life on earth is to be lived in the power of the Holy Spirit, the Third Person of the Trinity, who indwells Christians, enabling them to live distinctive lives in the life and power of Christ, making famous the Father in heaven. (Acts 2:38; Romans 8:11).

THE BIBLE

We believe in the accuracy, truth, authority, and power of the Holy Scriptures as the Word of God. We affirm that the Old and New Testaments are God-breathed and inspired. We teach all truths from the Bible via expository teaching.  (2 Tim. 3:16).

SIN

We believe that man, who was created in God’s image, chose to sin, i.e., break God’s command, which irrevocably compromised man’s relationship with God and caused a separation from God by introducing death to the human race. (Rom. 3:23; 5:12). We believe that each person is born with a sinful nature that activates at some point beyond infancy, at which time the person will be in need of the redemption of Jesus.

Salvation and Baptism

We believe that the death of Jesus Christ was the only, final, and complete sacrifice for the sins of humanity. People may accept this salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. (Ephesian 2:8-9) All who believe in the salvation act of Jesus (John 3:16) and that God raised Him from the dead, repent of their sins (Acts 2:38), publicly confess Jesus as Savior and Lord and have a transformed heart, (Romans 10:10) are saved and going to heaven.

We believe the next step in the Christian walk is to be baptized in obedience with the scriptures by full immersion in water. This displays the inward commitment to repentance and walking a new life in Christ Jesus. (Acts 2:41; Matt 28:19-20)

GOD’S PEOPLE

We believe that those who have placed their faith in Christ are knit together in one Body, the Church, a distinctive community of faith expressed in local clusters, engaging culture on every front with God’s hope and love … a Church for whom Christ will personally return. We believe that the church is the body of Christ on earth and is empowered by the Spirit to continue the ministry of Jesus Christ (1 Cor. 12:12-14).

SANCTIFICATION

We believe sanctification is the ongoing process of yielding to God’s Word and His Spirit in order to complete the development of Christ’s character in us; it is being salt and light in a fallen world (Matt. 5:13-16). It is through the present ministry of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God that the Christian is enabled to live a godly life (1Thessalonians 4:3, 5:23; 2 Corinthians 3:18, 6:14-18, 2 Thessalonians 2:1-3, Romans 8:29, 12:1-2, Hebrews 2:11).

WHOLE LIFE WORSHIP

Theologically informed worship must encompass our entire existence, whereby in all circumstances our words and actions bring glory to God. In-person worship gatherings are in order, for the edification and encouragement of all, in Spirit and in Truth, provide opportunities to take communion, hear the Scripture preached/taught, give sacrificially, respond to the gospel, and praise God in song. (John 4:24)

PRIESTHOOD OF ALL BELIEVERS

We believe the sacrifice of Jesus Christ granted access to God to all humanity.  He is the true high priest, making priestly mediators obsolete. Each of us can have a relationship with Him and ask for forgiveness of sin. (1 Pet. 2:9).

COMMUNION

We observe communion with the symbolic elements of bread and fruit of the vine as Jesus commanded, in order to remember his sacrifice, to connect us with the global Church, and to connect us with the local church. We observe communion when we gather as did the early church (Luke 22:19-20, Acts 20:7)

ON MARRIAGE

Marriage is the uniting of one biological man and one biological woman in covenant commitment for a lifetime. It is God’s unique gift to reveal the union between Christ and His church and to provide for the man and the woman in marriage the framework for intimate companionship, the channel of sexual expression according to biblical standards, and the means for procreation of the human race. Children, from the moment of conception, are a blessing and heritage from the Lord (Gen. 2: 22-24; Matt. 19: 5-6).

THE SECOND COMING

We believe that the Christian faith produces hope in the eventual physical return of Jesus, who will make all things right in the New Heaven and the New Earth, consummating history, and welcoming those whose names are in the Book of Life to eternity with God.  (Matthew 24:30, 26:63-64; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-8; Revelation 1:7)
